This is the last Will and testament of me Ann Pottrell of Furneux Pelham in the county of Hertford Widow I appoint my two sons John Chapman Pottrell and Edward Pottrell Executors of this my will I give to my son Thomas Pottrell a legacy of one hundred pounds and I also give to him my four silver salt spoons marked J.A.P. mustard spoon marked J.A.P sugar tongs marked J.W.K. four silver table spoons marked C.E.S. six dessert spoons marked J.A.P. two salt spoons and mustard spoon marked P caddy spoon and ring marked A.P. and all my wearing apparel I give to my said son John Chapman Pottrell my two silver table spoons marked M.P. two salt spoons marked P caddy spoon and twelve tea spoons marked C.E.S. and ring marked J.P I give to my said son Edward Pottrell my two gravy spoons six table spoons two salt spoons twelve tea spoons and sugar tongs all marked J.A.P. leaf caddy spoon and ring marked J.P. I give to my granddaughter Sarah Pottrell Jessopp the sum of nineteen guineas and to my grandson John Pottrell Jessopp the like some of nineteen guineas. I give to my nephew William Smith the sum of nineteen guineas and to his mother Mrs Smith the like sum of nineteen guineas but in case she marries or dies in my lifetime then her legacy of nineteen guineas is also to go to her son the said William Smith I give and devise to my said sons the said John Chapman Pottrell and Edward Pottrell all my messuages lands tenements hereditaments and real estate whatsoever and wheresoever to hold the same unto the said John Chapman Pottrell and Edward Pottrell their heirs and assigns upon trust and I hereby direct them to sell the same as soon as conveniently may be after my death and I declare that if my said two sons the said John Chapman Pottrell and Edward Pottrell or the survivor of them shall be desirous of purchasing my said real estate or any part thereof and shall give notice thereof in writing to the said Sarah Jessopp they or he shall be at liberty to purchase the same at a valuation to be made thereof by two competent surveyors one to be chosen by the said John Chapman Pottrell and Edward Pottrell or the survivor of them and the other by the said Sarah Jessopp or by an Umpire to be chosen by the said two valuers in the usual way and I direct that the monies to arise from the sale of my said real estate and from the intermediate rents and profits thereof shall fall into and be considered and taken as part of my personal estate and as to all my monies, monies in the public funds goods chattels effects and personal estate (not hereinbefore disposed of) and the monies to arise from the sale of my real estate after and subject to the payment of my just debts funeral and testamentary expenses and the legacies hereinbefore bequeathed I give one third part thereof to the said John Chapman Pottrell for his own use and I give one other third part thereof to the said Edward Pottrell for his own use and I direct the said John Chapman Pottrell and Edward Pottrell and the survivor of them to stand possessed of the remaining one third part thereof upon trust to invest the same in their or his names or name in or upon some one or more of the public or parliamentary stocks or funds of Great Britain or at interest upon government or real securities in England (but not elsewhere) and to pay the interest thereof into the proper hands of my daughter the said Sarah Jessopp for her life for her sole and separate use free from the control of her present or any future husband and without power of anticipation and after the death of the said Sarah Jessopp upon trust to pay the capital of the same third share to all the children of the said Sarah Jessopp who being sons or a son shall live to attain the age of twenty one years or being daughters or a daughter shall attain that age or marry and if more than one in equal shares but with power for my said trustees or the survivor of them to apply the whole or any part of the presumptive or expectant share of any infant child in or towards his or her advancement in the world or in marriage as they or he shall in their or his absolute and uncontrollable discretion think fit but in case there shall be no child of the said Sarah Jessopp who shall live to attain a vested interest in the capita of the last mentioned one third share of my resiuary personal estate then I give and bequeath the same or so much thereof as shall not have been disposed of under the trusts aforesaid to the said John Chapman Pottrell and Edward Pottrell equally I declare that my reason for not leaving my son the said Thomas Pottrell an equal share of my property is because he takes his deceased brother Porter's share of his grandfather and grandmother's and of my late husband's landed property I direct that the legacies hereinbefore bequeathed shall be paid within two calendar months after my death and I earnestly request that every thing relating to my executorship affairs may be settled within six calendar months after my death I revoke all former wills and declare this only to be my will In witness whereof I have set my hand this ninth day of June one thousand eight hundred and sixty nine [ANN POTTRELL] Signed by the said Ann Pottrell the testatrix and by her acknowledged and declared to be her last will and testament in the joint presence of us who have hereunto at her request in her presence and in the presence of each other subscribed our names as witnesses to the due execution thereof Thomas MOTT of Much Hadham Herts Solicitor John Wilson Clerk to Mr MOTT. I give to my granddaughter Sarah Pottrell Jessopp and to my grandson John Pottrell Jessopp the sum of one hundred pounds a piece (free from legacy duty) in lieu of the two leagacies of nineteen guineas each bequeathed to them by my within written will.
