This is the last Will and Testament of me Hannah Pottrell of Ferneux Pelham in the county of Hertford. Widow I appoint my friend Mr John Cole of Manuden lordship sole executor of this my Will and I give him the sum of five Guineas as a mark of my esteem. I give to my grandson Thomas Pottrell, the eldest surviving son of my late dear son John Pottrell deceased my large silver Salver, my half pint Silver Mugs six table spoons, six desert spoons and a pair of Gravy Spoons. To his brother John Chapman Pottrell one pair of Common Silver Gravy Spoons, my silver tankard punch ladle four silver Salts and silver pepper box to his Brother Edward Pottrell twelve common tea spoons, sugar [Illegible] pair of common table spoons desert spoon and silver [Illegible] and to my Granddaughter Sarah Pottrell my Silver cream mug twelve tea spoons, best sugar [Illegible] pair of [Illegible] spoons marked H.R.P my watch household [Illegible] and walking apparels I give all in Household furniture china and Books to the said Thomas Pottrell and John Chapman Pottrell equally to be divided between them and I declare that the receipt of their Guardian for the time being for the same shall be all effectual [Illegible] to my Executor I give to Mr Cole of Braughing the Mourning Broach which I had for [Illegible] [Illegible] of my dear Son Thomas Porter Pottrell I give to my daughter-in-law Ann Pottrell widow ten guineas as a mark of my affection and regard. I give to Miss Mary Pottrell now being with an annuity of ten pounds free from Legacy Duty to commence from the day of my death and to be thereforth payable to her for her life by equal half yearly payments over and besides principal money and Interest due to her on my Bond and as to any other my Goods Chattels effects and Personal estate and subject to the payment of all my just debts funeral and testamentary expenses legaries [Illegible] and Legacy Duty I give the same and every part) thereof to my said dear grandchildren equally to be divided between them share and share alike and I so hereby by virtue of power and authority [Illegible] power if any enabling me in this behalf [Illegible] appoint I give and bequeath all monies and personal estate whatsoever if any ever [Illegible] I have any power of appointment or position and not here- to-fore disposed of unto my said four grandchildren equally to be divided between them share and share alike in Witness whereof I the said Hannah Pottrell the testative have this my last Will and testament set my hand this second day of August in the year of our lord one thousand and eight hundred and forty one [H POTTRELL] signed and published by the said Hannah Pottrell to be her Will in the joint presence of us who have hereunto at her request in her presence and in the presence of each other subscribed our names as witnesses to the one execution thereof. [names Illegible, possibly Thomas Mott and Thomas Samuel Trutt?] This is a Codicil to the last Will and Testament of me Hannah Pottrell of Ferneux Pelham in the County of Hertford Widow which will bears date on or about the second day of August one thousand eight hundred and forty one I wrote the appointment of my friend Mr John Cole to be the sole Executor of my said Will and I also wrote the legacy of five Guineas which I have thereby given to him and I so hereby appoint in his stead his Brother Mr Thomas Cole of Braughing to be the sole Executor of my said Will to whom I give the sum of five Guineas as a mark of my Esteem also I give to Sarah Perkins of Old Windsor Widow sister of Miss Mary Pottrell a loyaltee in my said Will the sum of nineteen Guineas and with these additions and alterations I satisfy and confirm my said Will In witness whereof I have here unto Set my hand this fifteenth day of July one thousand eight hundred and forty two [H POTTRELL] Signed published by the said Hannah Pottrell the Testative as and for a codicil to her last Will and Testment in the joint presence of each other have hereunto subscribed our names as witnesses to the due execution thereof William Mumford, Fx. Pelham Grocer, George Gayton Much Hadham Herts, Solicitor This is a second Codicil to the Will of me the above named Hannah Pottrell I give to Miss Mary Pottrell an annuity for her life of five pounds in addition to the annuity of ten pounds given her by my said Will and to commence at the same time and to be free from Legacy Duty and I direct my Executor to purchase for her and in her own name a Government annuity of fifteen pounds to answer both bequests In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand this sixteenth day of February in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and forty four [HANNAH POTTRELL] signed and published by the said Hannah Pottrell as and for a Codicil to her Will in the joint presence of us who at her request in her presence and the presence of each other have hereunto subscribed our names as Witnesses to the due execution thereof Thomas [Illegible] Much Hadham, Herts, Solicitor, Henry Samuel Mott Church Curate of Brent & Furneux Pelham
Proved at London with two codicils 5th November 1846 before the worshipful John Bambury Doctor of Laws and surrogate by the oath of Thomas Cole the sole executor named in the first codicil to whom administration was granted having been first sworn duly to administer.
