This is the last will and testament of me Thomas Pottrell of Abbington in the county of cambridge Gentleman whereas previous to my Marriage with my present Wife Mary. I entered into a Bond or obligation bearing date on or about about the nineteenth day of October which was in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and twenty one for having to my said wife by my will for the Interest of one thousand pounds for her life in manner as in the said Bond is mentioned Item I do by the my last Will and Testament give and bequeath unto my Executors herein afterward the sum of one thousand pounds in trust to place the same out on Government or such other securities as they or any two of them shall think proper and pay and unto my said beloved wife Mary for her own use for her Life and after her decease Item direct that the said one thousand pounds prinipal Money shall [Illegible] into and be taken as part of the Rest and Residue of my personal Estate herein after Bequeathed and I mean and intend that the said one thousand pounds so bequeathed or the Interest thereof as aforesaid shall be taken in full performance of the condition of my said Bond also I give and bequeath unto my said dear Wife the sum of one hundred pounds of life lawful money to be paid her in manner following [Illegible] fifty pounds part thereof within one month after my decease fifty pounds residue thereof within six months after my decease also I give to my said dear wife all the furniture usually standing and kept in my best bed room also I give and bequeath unto my Son Thomas Pottrell my Old Siler Tankard which is now at Fowlmere to my Son John my Silver Tankard now at Abbington to my Son Henry my Siler Salver and my Silver Salts and Casters I give to my Daughter Sarah and all the rest residue and remainder of my Goods Cattle Chattels Forks Moneys securities for Money debts personal estate and effects whatsoever and wheresoever I give and bequeath unto my said Dear wife Mary Pottrell my Uncle John Pottrell and my wife's Uncle John Rickard to their Executors administrators and assigns upon trust that they the said Mary Pottrell, John Pottrell and John Rickard and the survivor of them and the executors and administrators of such survivor shall and do convert all my said personal estate into money and place the same out on good securities as Interest or otherwise manage and dispose thereof as they shall in their discretion think best for the benefit and advantage of all and singular my child and children which shall be living at the time of my decease or born in due time afterwards equally share and share alike and by and out of the interest and profits to arise and grow doe for the same shall and do pay for the maintenance education and [Illegible] of all my said children in such way and manner as they shall think proper and I impower my said Trustees to pay out the sum of one hundred pounds if they think necessary out of the share of any one or more of my said children's fortunes for placing them out apprentice or otherwise for their [Illegible] and when and as my said children shall arrive at the age of twenty one years or be married with the consent of their guardians herein after married but not otherwise I will and direct that the equal part of share of such child so attaining this her or their age of ages of twenty one years or marring with such consent as aforsaid shall be paid by my said trustees or the survivor unto such child or children respectively when and as soon as the event shall respectively happen. And in case any one or more of my said children shall happen to die under age and unmarried without such consent as aforesaid than and in that case and so often as the rest shall happen I will and direct that the part or share of my said effects which would according to this my Will have gone to such child or children so dying shall go and belong to the survivors and survivor of my children or child in the same manner as the original portion or share would go to such surviving children or child and so as offen as the rest shall happen and lastly I nominate constitute and appoint my said Dear wife Mary Pottrell and my said Uncle John Pottrell and my Wifes said Uncle John Rickard joint Executors of this my last Will and Testament and also Guardians of my said children. In writing whereof the my said Thomas Pottrell have hereunto set my hand and to this second and last sheet have set my hand and seal this seventh day of May in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and seventy seven Tho Pottrell signed sealed published and declared by the said Thomas Pottrell the testator as and for his last Will and Testament in the prescure of us who at his request in his prescue and in the presence of each other have set our names as witnesses hereunto Rob Passell, Sarah Elborn, William Nash
This Will was proved at London the twenty sixth day of October in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and eighty one before the Right worshipful Peter Calbert Doctor of Laws Master Keeper or commissionary of the perogative court of Canterbury lawfully constituted by the oaths of Mary Pottrell Widow the [Illegible] of the deceased John Pottrell and John Rickard the executor named in the said Will to whom Administration was granted of all and singular the goods Chattels and Credits of the said deceased them having been first sworn by commission duly to administer. (In smaller writing in the margin) On the 18th May 1835 admon [Illegible] of the Goods Chattels and [Illegible] of Thomas Pottrell late of Abbington in the county of Cambridge deceased left [Illegible] by Mary Pottrell Widow of [Illegible] John Pottrell and John Rickard deceased whilst being the executors and residuary [Illegible] in trust named in the said Will was bequeathed to Mary Pottrell spinster the natural and lawful daughter and [Illegible] of the residuary legacies named the the said Will having been first sworn by [Illegible] duly to administer the said Mary Pottrell Widow divised her co executors having made her Will but died not therein [Illegible] executor.
