In the name of God Amen The thirtieth day of November in the nineteenth year of The Reign of our Sovereign Lord Charles the Second by the grace of God of England Scotland France and Ireland King Defender of the faith, And in the grace of our Lord God one thousand Six hundred and Sixty seven. I Henry Pottrell of the parish of Chrishall in the county of Essex yeoman being Sickly and [Illegible] of body, but of [Illegible] good rememberance thanks be given to Almighty God therefore, do make ordain and declare this my last Will and Testmanet in manner and form following (That is to say) first I commend my soul to Almighty God, my creator and redeemer hoping through the merits of Jesus Christ to have pardon for all my Sins and to be accounted one of the number of the Elect Children of God, And my body I commit to the Earth from whence if first came And as for that Small portion of worldly goods, messuages and Lands, which God hath lent me in this transitory Life, I give and dispose of them as follows: IMPRIMIS I will give and bequeath unto Henry Pottrell my Eldest son five shillings of lawful money of England to be paid unto him within half a year next after my Decease, ITEM I will give and bequeath unto William Pottrell my Son Three acres of freehold arable land lying in the common fields of Chrishall (that is to say) Two half acres lying in a field called by the name of Dignsfeild And three Roods and one Single rood lying in a field called Morefield purchased of one Mr Lucas and also one acre thereof lying in a field called Debden field, purchased of one Edward Dosen to have and to hold the said three acres of arable land more or less to the only wife and behoose of the said William Pottrell my Son and to his heires for ever ITEM I will give and bequeth unto Isaac Pottrell my son, after the death of Mary Pottrell the wife of Henry Pottrell my eldest son, and freehold Messuage and Tennement with all other the messuage and buildings Orchards, Gardens And pastures grounds that is adjoining and belonging with other appartments belonging thereunto whatsoever, containing by estimation Six Acres more or less called by [Illegible] priory of [Illegible] fields and also fifteen acres of freehold arable land more or less lying in the outfields, all which said freehold messuage and other houses, pastures and arable lands, are standing lying and being in the parish of Chrishall in the county of essex and which I lately purchased of one Robert Moule, to have and to hold the said freehold messuage and all other the buildings and houses, pasture ground and arable lands beforegiven with all other the appurtements before mentioned whatsoever, To the only wife and behoofe of the said Isaac Pottrell my son and to his heires and assigns for ever, provided always and upon this condition that he the said Isaac Pottrell my son his heirs exors administrator assignes shall paid or cause to be paid one hundred and ten pounds of good and lawful money of England unto two of my sons and one of my daughters as hereafter are named, (in manner and forme following that is to say) I will and give unto Edward Pottrell my son his heirs exors and assigns fourscore pounds of lawful money of England to be paid by my Son Isaac Pottrell his heirs exors or assigns within one year next after the decease of Mary Pottrell the wife of Henry Pottrell my Son aforesaid, Or within one year next after the said Isaac my son his heirs exors or assigns shall possess and enjoy the said Mesuage and tenements pastures, grounds and lands, and all other the apurtenances as is given unto him aforesaid, also I give unto John Pottrell my son his heirs exors and assigns ten pounds of lawful money of England to be paid unto them by my son Isaac Pottrell his heirs exors and assigns within one year next after the decease of Mary Pottrell the wife of Henry Pottrell my son, or within one year next after the said Isaac my son his heirs exors and assigns shall possess and enjoy the said mesuage and tenement pasture grounds and Arable lands, and all other the apurtenances as is given aforesaid, and lastly I give unto Mary Fordham my Daughter her heirs exors and assigns twenty pounds of lawful money of England to be paid unto the said Mary Fordham my daughter her heirs exors and assigns by my son Isaac Pottrell his heirs, exors or assigns at the same time before expressed that Edward Pottrell and John Pottrell. And if the said Isaac Pottrell my son his heirs exors, administrators or assigns shall refuse or neglect to pay the said Edward Pottrell, and John Pottrell my sons or Mary my daughter their heirs, exors or assigns, all of them or any of them their several portions and sums of money which is given to be paid unto them, in manner and form And within the time as before is exposed and mentioned, according to my true intent and meaning, that then I will and my meaning is that the said Edward Pottrell and John Pottrell my Sons and Mary Fordham my Daughter all of them or either of them their heirs exors or assigns which shall not be paid in manner and form and at the time when it ought to be paid unto them according as before is expressed, to have full power and authority to enter upon the said freehold messuage and tennement and other the buildings pasture or grounds and arable lands and all other the apurtenances before given and granted and to have and hold possess and enjoy the same as their own. Until their said several portions and summs of money given unto them with all other charges in the Law which shall be by them or other of them be paid out for the rectory thereof be fully satisfied contented and paid. ITEM I will give and bequeth unto Ann Jue? my daughter the wife of John Jue? give pounds of good and lawful money of England to be paid unto her within one year next after my decease ITEM I will give and bequeth unto John Jue my Grandchild forty shillings of lawful money of England to be paid unto hm when he shall come to the full age of two and twenty years. All the rest of my goods and Chattells, household stuff and moveables that is unbequethed whatsoever that is mine I will and give unto Grace Pottrell my loving wife and William Pottrell my son, whome I make and ordain joint executors of this my last will and testament. To the end they shall pay all my debts and all things herein contained which of right ought to be paid according to my intent and meaning. And that they shall bring my body, decently and in order to the grounds as A Christian ought to be. IN WITNESS whereof I the said Henry Pottrell have hereunto set my hand and seal the day and year first above written. Memorandum before the sealing of these presents I will give and bequeath unto John Pottrell my son before named ten pounds of lawful money to be paid unto him by my executors within one year next after my decease.
