Curious that Thomas did not name John Chapman Pottrell (Brother) as an executor or beneficiary of his Will and why did Edward Pottrell renounce executorship? The estate is worth approx £274,000 in today's month (Using the RPI). Also it would seem that Eliza Porter died before fully executing Thomas's Will, as recorded in this London Gazette article..

This is the last Will only Will and testament of me Thomas Pottrell of Furneux Pelham in the county of Hertford Gentleman I direct all my just debts and funeral and testamentary expenses to be paid as soon as conveniently may be after my decease I give and bequeath to Mrs Mary Bradford the wife of George Bradford of Furneaux Pelham the sum of nineteen pounds nineteen shillings to be paid to her within three months after my decease for her sole and separate use I give devise and bequeath all my estate whether real or personal and whether in possession reversion remainder or expectancy unto my brother Edward Pottrell of Furneux Pelham and Miss Fanny Ann Porter of Corney Bury Buntingford in the county of Hertford Spinster to be divided between them equally share and share alike and I direct and my will is that if either of them the said Edward Pottrell and Fanny Ann Porter shall die in my lifetime leaving issue the said issue shall take the share of the one so dying. And if the siad Fanny Ann Porter shall die in my lifetime without leaving issue her share of and in my estate shall go unto my said brother Edward Pottrell or his issue And I do hereby appoint my said brother Edward Pottrell and the said Fanny Ann Porter Executor and Executrix of this my will. In witness whereof I have to his my last and only will and testament set and subscribed my hand this eighth day of September one thousand eight hundred and seventy seven. On the 14th Decemeber 1885 Probate of this will was granted to Fanny Ann Porter Spinster one of the executors. Be it known that Thomas Pottrell formerly of Pelham Lodge but late of Pheasant Hall both in Furneaux Pelham in the County of Hertford Gentleman deceased, who died on the 8th day of August 1995 at Pheasant Hall aforesaid made and duly executed his last will and testament and did therein name his Brother Edward Pottrell and Fanny Ann Porter Spinster Executors and Residuary Legatees That the said Edward Pottrell renounced the probate and execution of the said Will. That in the month of December 1885 Probate of the said Will was granted at the Principal Probate Registry of the High Court of Justice to the said Fanny Ann Porter who for sometime intermeddled in the personal estate of the said deceased and died on the 12th day of January 1885 leaving part thereof unadministered having made her will with a codicil and in her said will appointed the said Thomas Pottrell sole executor And be it further known that at the date hereuner written, Letters of Administration with the will of the personal estate of the said Thomas Pottrell so left unadministered were granted by her majesty's high court of justice at the principal registry of the probate division thereof to Eliza Porter of Corney Bury Buntingford in the said county Spinster the administratrix with the said Will and Codicil of the personal estate of the said Fanny Ann Porter she the said Eliza Porter having been first sworn well and faithfully to administer the same. dated 13th day of April 1886.
